Abstract

Background: This study primarily aimed to study age/sex-related discriminants and comorbidity prevalence in Bilateral Osteoarthritis knee.

Methods: A total of 61 patients (bilateral 20, unilateral 41) having Osteoarthritis knee planned for simultaneous & staged bilateral TKA participated in the current study. Age and gender distribution were measured. Prevalence of comorbidities in this study group were observed.

Results:  Mean age of patients in Staged group is 57years & 59 years in Simultaneous respectfully. There was female predominance in both the groups, although female predominance is not of statistical significance in both the groups (p value -0.533). Among comorbidities, Hypertension is more prevalent in both the groups (57.1% among staged & 60% among simultaneous patients) followed by Obesity (19% among staged & 20% among simultaneous patients) & Diabetes (14.3% among staged & 10% among simultaneous patients).

Conclusion:  In our study there is a female predominance that is not of statistical significance & mean age of patients in Staged group is 57 years, whereas the mean age of patients in Simultaneous group is 59 years. Hypertension is the most common comorbidity followed by obesity & diabetes.
